Why this list matters so much for Q
Q is worth ten points in standard tile values, which makes it one of the most valuable letters to hold, and also one of the most frustrating when no U is in sight. Most casual players assume Q is simply unplayable without one. Knowing even three or four of these words is often the difference between wasting a turn and landing a strong play.
Where these words actually come from
Most of them are borrowed directly from Arabic and Hebrew, where Q represents a sound that doesn't naturally pair with U the way it does in English. QAT, a plant chewed as a mild stimulant in parts of East Africa and the Middle East, and QOPH, a Hebrew letter name, are both good examples. QWERTY, referring to the standard keyboard layout, is a rare modern exception that snuck onto word lists more recently.
