A New Word, Every Day

Daily Word Puzzle

One scrambled word a day, the same for every visitor, with hints if you need them and a streak that tracks how many days in a row you've solved it.

Every day at midnight UTC, a new word is selected from our dictionary using that day's date itself as the seed. Everyone who visits sees the same scrambled word. Solve it, use hints if you need them, or reveal the answer, then come back tomorrow for a new one.

Why today's puzzle is the same for everyone

The word isn't randomly picked when you load the page, it's deterministically calculated from the calendar date, so the exact same word and the exact same scramble show up for every visitor on the same day, all without needing a server, a database, or anyone manually publishing a new puzzle. It simply changes itself at midnight, every day, indefinitely.

Using hints without giving up

Each click of Get a hint reveals one more letter from the start of the word, so you can pull in exactly as much help as you want without committing to seeing the whole answer. Guessing still works normally at any point, hints or not.

Building a streak

Solve the puzzle correctly on consecutive days and your streak climbs by one each time, tracked locally in your own browser. It resets if you miss a day or only reveal the answer without actually guessing it correctly. There's no account and nothing leaves your device, so a new browser or a cleared cache starts fresh.

Frequently asked questions

Jump to a question (10 total)
How does the daily puzzle pick a word?

Each date deterministically selects one word from our dictionary using the calendar date itself as the seed, so every visitor sees the exact same scrambled word on the same day, and it changes automatically at midnight UTC without anyone needing to update anything.

Is today's word the same for everyone?

Yes, that's the whole point. The selection is based purely on the date, not on your device, location, or account, so it's genuinely shared.

How many hints can I use?

As many as you need, each one reveals one more letter from the start of the word. Using hints doesn't lock you out of guessing.

What happens if I give up?

The answer is revealed immediately, and it's marked as today's result. Come back tomorrow for a new word and a fresh shot at your streak.

How does the streak work?

Solving the puzzle correctly on consecutive calendar days increases your streak by one each day. Missing a day, or only revealing the answer without guessing it, resets it back to zero the next time you play.

Is my streak saved anywhere besides my browser?

No, it's stored locally in your browser only, using localStorage, not on a server or account. Clearing your browser data will reset it.

Can I play on multiple devices and keep one streak?

No, since the streak is stored locally per browser rather than tied to an account, each device tracks its own streak separately.

Why does the puzzle length vary?

Each day's word is randomly six, seven, or eight letters long, picked the same deterministic way as the word itself, so the difficulty shifts a little day to day.

Can I replay a previous day's puzzle?

Not currently. Each day's puzzle is meant to be a single shared daily challenge, similar in spirit to other daily word games.

Is this connected to Wordle or any other daily word game?

No, this is an original daily puzzle built from our own dictionary and our own deterministic word selection, not affiliated with or derived from any other game.
